The new Predator Absolute is redesigned by Adidas and lighter than ever. Available in firm and soft ground, with a take down version, the Absolado, also available in adult and kids sizes.
Designed by former Liverpool footballer, Craig Johnstone, the Adidas Predator boot represents a truly revolutionary step forward in football boot development.
Johnstone set out to design a boot that gave a player far more traction - both between boot and playing surface, and boot and ball. The Adidas Predator design recognises that to achieve a good strike, the maximum surface area possible needs to be in contact with the ball itself. To this end the adidas predator football boot upper is made of a soft yet hardwearing material that allows the striking area to flex around the ball. Kangaroo ("K") leather fits the bill, being light, supple and strong. By reinforcing the striking area with additional power and swerve zone elements rather than just having a plain leather upper, the player can also impart up to 20% more traction on the ball, generating more swerve on shots and free kicks.
By also improving the design of the sole plate and stud system, the boot that was to become the adidas predator was born. New polymer extrusion technologies and materials allowed for a more flexible sole, further improving the shape of the boot upon striking the ball. By replacing the conventional conical / circular studs with a bladed design in an array spread out over the sole the wearer achieves a far more stable platform even in soft ground conditions.
Having invested a great deal of money from his playing career in the development of the boot, Johnstone's efforts were finally rewarded when Adidas began production of the first Predator football boots in 1994.
Now worn by many of the World's greatest footballers including Kaka, Riquelme and Steven Gerrard, the Adidas Predator is regularly updated with new colourways every season. Incorporating both soft ground and firm ground options, as well as an indoor / astro turf version frequently worn as a leisure shoe, the Adidas Predator is as much a fashion item as it is practical.
Retailing at £120 per pair, the Adidas Predator is out of the price range for many people, but in recognition of this, Adidas produce the Adidas Absolado, an aesthetically similar football boot, but with full grain rather than K leather, and a moulded sole unit, rather than replaceable blades.
Many retailers now offer name embroidery as a way to personalise your football boots, in common with many of the stars who wear these styles.
